COVID-19 Update

We're Reopening

We will reopen for all guests, bookings and walk-ins, on the 13/10/2020.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we ask our guests to follow a few health safety guidelines that are required by the authorities.

  1. We will need to scan your temperature when you arrive. If someone in your family has a fever, we are unable to allow entry to the premises. (Payments made in advanced will be refunded in full).
  2. We will need to scan your temperature every time you enter the restaurant.
  3. A maximum of 2 people can sit at one table, unless you are a group or family.
  4. Hand sanitizer will be provided along with hand washing stations.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We are very happy to be opening again after being closed for six months. Our area is beautiful at this time of the year, the forest is lush and most of our amazing caving, trekking and kayaking trips are running. We hope to see you soon!

Soppong River Inn

Soppong River Inn opened its first rooms in 1998, and now all of our rooms are unique in style and decoration. We currently have seven completely different room styles. Our rates are the same year round, and we never raise our rates to take advantage of holidays or "high season". Our location on the banks of the Lang river overlooking a small limestone gorge is unsurpassed. We are close to the town, bus station and market, but guests feel like they are in a tropical garden by a wilderness river.

We can help you arrange for activities in the Soppong (Pang Mapha) area, including some very authentic trekking to the hill tribe villages and amazing adventure tours to world-class caves. The full-day caving trips are run by our friends at Cave Lodge. The experienced guides there also run guided white and black water (through Tham Lod cave) kayaking trips on the Lang and Khong Rivers. Click on our links for more details on these exceptional trips. The best time for kayaking is the wet season from around July to November, though some trips can run through to January.

We like to specialise in good food and comfortable accommodation but we are happy to connect you with a guide and help arrange a tour if you wish. We charge no commission; we just want our guests to enjoy their stay and experience some of the special attractions of our unique region. Some of the tours require a minimum number of people to run. Treks can be tailored to your individual interests and fitness.

There are many Lisu and Lahu villages within an hour's walk of the Inn. Most villages are also accessible by motorbike and car as well for easy access. There are several loop roads that pass a variety of villages and offer spectacular views. The mountain road that passes through Tham Lod Shan village, Ban Yappanair, Ban Mae Lana and Ban Jabo is particularly good. This route takes only a few hours and is well worth the effort. Day trekking to local villages or caves makes for a long day, but a hot shower and comfortable beds await you back at the Inn at the end of the day.
